Travel & Lodging

Tourism in Hawaii peaks during the last two weeks of December, so please make your airline and hotel reservations as soon as possible. Visitors flock to Hawaii for the holidays to enjoy, among other things, the warm climate, whale watching and the North Shore's spectacular winter surf.

Getting to Honolulu

Please arrange to fly into Honolulu International Airport (airport code: HNL), the airport for the island of Oahu. Most of the major airlines offer a range of flight options to get to and from Hawaii.

For those of you who live on the West Coast, we have signed up for Hawaiian Airlines' Wedding Wings discount program, which offers 10 percent off of Hawaiian Airlines' lowest available transpacific roundtrip webfares at the time of booking. Our star file number is WED838. You will need this number and our last names (Kimura and Dominy) to register. This discount does not apply to interisland-only, international or codeshare fares and is not combinable with any other discount or offer. Please note that lower fares may be available via other channels.

The Wedding Wings discount is valid for travel between 12/23/2006 - 1/14/2007. Please use the link below to get this discount.

Getting Around

Driving is the easiest way to explore the many natural and cultural attractions that are located outside of Waikiki and downtown Honolulu. You might consider renting a car only on the days that you plan to travel outside of the city. The major car rental companies have offices at the airport and in Waikiki.

If you choose not to rent a car, plan to take a cab or a shuttle into Waikiki (the city bus will not permit you on if you are carrying sizeable luggage). A cab ride will cost approximately $30 and the shuttle will cost about half as much. You may wish to reserve your shuttle ride through your hotel.

The Waikiki Trolley provides an economical method of seeing some of the major sights in downtown Honolulu and also offers a scenic, "ocean" route that travels past Diamond Head and the Halona Blowhole to Sea Life Park.

TheBus is Oahu's public transportation option. TheBus is clean and safe, and it will even take you all around the island, but it is the least time-efficient method of getting around. As mentioned above, a car rental may be worthwhile on the day(s) that you would like to explore outside of the city.

Interisland Flights

If you plan to visit one of the neighbor islands, Aloha Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines are the two major interisland carriers.

Maui tends to be everyone's favorite Hawaiian island. We love the Volcanoes National Park on the Big Island of Hawaii. Kauai, Lanai and Molokai are for those of you who prefer to get away from it all. Each island has its own unique set of natural, cultural and historical offerings.
